Review | Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

If you’re a makeup lover, you probably know that Tarte Shape Tape is one of the most talked about concealers on the internet. This concealer has a reputation for being one of the best.

I know I’m really late in joining the bandwagon but I’m just one of those people that stick to using only the things they like. However, too many people rave about this Shape Tape for me to ignore it any longer! I had to find out: is this concealer really the best?

I normally don’t wear concealer everyday, but for the purposes of this blog post, I did that for a week.

First impressions:
The first thing that I noticed was how huge the applicator is! I’ve never used a concealer with such a huge applicator. I normally dip into my other concealer quite a few times when I highlight and contour my face. However, I find that the amount that comes out on the applicator one time is enough for highlighting my whole face, so that’s a plus.

Keep this in mind because if you go in quite a few times it can be too much.

Pricing:
This concealer retails for $27 and comes with 0.33 oz of product, which I think is a fair price.

Shade range:
I’m a medium skin tone and I think the shade range is pretty good from my point of view. I wear the shade light medium.

Consistency:
The next thing that I noticed was how thick the consistency was. This is not necessarily a bad thing if you like heavier makeup. If you are someone who likes to wear lighter makeup, I don’t think this concealer is for you.

It’s not so thick that it looks cakey. It’s just thicker than my regular liquid concealer.

Creasing:
I noticed that it causes creasing under the eye. I make sure I smooth out the concealer and set it with a translucent powder right after application to avoid creasing but I still see creasing. I almost feel as if my under eye creasing is emphasized with this product which is not a good thing.

Coverage:
I like that this concealer is very full coverage. It covers all of my acne marks with no issue!

Blendability:
I use a brush to blend out my concealer and it blends out really smoothly and easily. It looks really pretty and flawless on the skin.

It dries matte which is a MUST HAVE for me because of my oilyness.

Longevity:
This concealer lasts a long time. The longest I’ve worn it is 11 hours and it held up pretty well. I didn’t really get too crazy oily with this concealer. However, when I did get oily, the makeup started to break apart and it didn’t look great. This happened only minimally and around the inner cheeks and nose so it wasn’t horrible. This doesn’t bother me too much because no makeup product is perfect and oils are bound to mess with makeup at some point.

Overall:
I think this is a nice concealer but if you’re a natural makeup kind of gal, I don’t think this is for you. I don’t really wear natural makeup but I don’t really wear heavy makeup either. I personally think this concealer is best for a special occasion because it’s very thick and full coverage. I wouldn’t really wear this everyday. It lasts a decent amount of time but will start to break apart if you wear it for a long time so be mindful of that. It also emphasizes the little fine lines and creases under the eyes that most people have. It is a beautiful concealer but just keep those things in mind if you decide to buy!

Totally agree! I actually just bought it myself a few weeks ago and am still getting used to it. Definitely great for full coverage and for my dark circles, but not for everyday, like you said!
