Creating a beautiful eyeshadow look comes down to the right eyeshadow brushes. If you don’t have the right brushes you won’t be able to get the shadow in the right place and it’ll just be a hot mess!

If you’ve always wondered what each brush was for, well, you’re gonna learn today!

Let’s start with the crease:

1) A fluffy blending brush

The first thing I do with this brush is sweep a white color all over the lid. White is just a really good base color for shadows. It also ensure that I have my brow bone color done before I start the rest of my look.

Secondly, I use this brush to add my transition color. If you’re not familiar with makeup terms, the transition color is typically a bronzer type of color that is added to the crease and blended upward. Be sure not to bring this color onto the brow bone.

2) A tighter fluffy blending brush

I use this brush when I want to add more dimension. It’s great if you want to add another color to the crease, but want to keep that color kind of low.

For example, let’s say I wanted to add a tan color to my transition area, and then a brown in my crease. I would use the tighter fluffy brush for the brown color because it will keep the color concentrated to that area.

Now let’s move on to the lids:

3) An angled fluffy brush

This is great for adding color to the outer V of your eye. Keep in mind that when you use this brush in the outer V the color will look more diffuse instead of concentrated.

If you want it to be more concentrated, it’s better to use a tight shader brush and then blend it out with the tight fluffy brush really carefully.

4) A flat shader brush

MAC 239 is the best flat shader brush that I’ve tried! This brush is mainly used to apply shadows to the lid. It will help to concentrate the color and make the color stand out more.

I wouldn’t recommend using this brush in the crease.

It can also be used to apply shimmery colors on the lid but I find that fingers work best for that and the brush that I’m going to mention next.

5) A “concealer” brush

Technically, the brush that I have is used for concealer but I use it to add glitter and shimmer. If you wet the brush with MAC Fix + and add the shadow to your lid, it gives the most beautiful foiled effect!

Other details:

6) Angled brush

This type of brush is great for if you want to create a liner on your eye using shadows.

Where I got mine: Some Walgreens brush set, but Sonia Kashuk makes a great one!

7) Pencil Brush

This brush is great for details. If you want to add a color really tight on your crease or on the outer edge of the eye it works great.

I typically use this brush to smoke out my lower lash line . You would typically used a lighter color here (like a tan/bronzer color brown or a lighter purple).

8) Tight tiny shader brush

I like this brush for adding shadows really tightly to my lower lash line. I typically will use a black shadow but you can use any darker color that you’d like (like dark purple for example).

9) Small tight shader brush

This brush is great for detail work. Also great for adding shadows really closely to the upper and lower lash line. This brush is more dense than brushes #8 and #10.

10) Detailer Brush

I LOVE this brush for adding highlight to my brow bone (just the area where my brow arches) and the tear duct!
