Alternative to the Beauty Blender

Hi everyone! Hope you’re having a good day so far!

So for the past couple of days I’ve been using the buffing brush from the BH Cosmetics set that I recently posted about, and it is AMAZING for blending out highlight. Just dab the product around as you would with a beauty blender and voila!

I’ve been trying to find the perfect brush to blend out concealer that wouldn’t remove product or leave it streaky, and honestly this brush is just dense enough to leave the concealer looking flawlessly. I haven’t used this for cream contour but I’m sure it will work just as well!

I have oily skin so I don’t like that I have to use a wet beauty blender on my face to blend things out. Also, I feel like cleaning the beauty blender is such a task and I worry that I probably didn’t get all of the soap out. That being said, I’m so happy I finally found the perfect brush for the job so I just wanted to share that with you guys!

Also, just got the morphe G2 AKA “the beauty blender on a stick” as Patrick Star calls it. It is incredibly soft but also very tight and dense, which makes it perfect for blending!

My favorite concealer for highlighting is the NARS Radiant Concealer, just in case you were wondering. What is yours?

Eyebrow Transformation and Tips

Not only are eyebrows “in” right now, but they are so important in shaping your face. Eyebrows can literally make or break you!

Ever since I started getting my eyebrows done, I’ve always had uneven eyebrows. One person messed up my eyebrows and they’ve been messed up ever since. When I was younger I also used to pluck my eyebrows and that did NOT end up well (who else has fallen victim to this?)
Here is a picture from those horrible eyebrow days (I apologize for the bad quality):

Besides being uneven, they were so thin and the shape was terrible.

Fast forward a couple of years and this is what they look like now:
You can see that they are still a little uneven but they have come a far way! I know that my eyebrows are nowhere near perfect, but I still wanted to share some tips with you guys!

Tips on eyebrow grooming and maintenance:

  1. Find an eyebrow lady that you like, and stick with that person! Do not let anyone else touch your eyebrows.
  2. Tell your eyebrow lady exactly what you want and how you like your eyebrows.
    • I always tell mine that I want to work on evening out my eyebrows and she works with me and tells me exactly which areas I need to grow out.
  3. Use castor oil to grow out certain areas – I’ve linked the one that I use below (it does work)
    • I only pluck the growth that is farther away from my eyebrows, just to CLEAN my eyebrows.
      • Trust me, you might think you know what you are doing, but all it takes is one wrong pluck for you to mess it all up.
  5. Filling in brows:
    • Pencil=more natural and more control
    • Pomade=darker and more defined, less fine control
      • I personally use Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate
        • It is my favorite!! It’s crazy because I never used to fill my brows in but now I feel so weird if I don’t!
        • It has some red undertones so it isn’t too dark/deep of a brown but still rich enough for my tan/brown complexion

In other news:
—MAC just came out with eyeshadow palettes!! So excited! They have like THE best pigmentation!

What are some of your favorite eyebrow products?

10 Beauty Products that are Not Worth the Hype

  1. L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara – Carbon Black
    • By the way everyone raves about this product I thought it would be amazing and better than my holy grail (Too Faced BTS), but it isn’t.
    • It IS a good mascara for volume – but not for length.
    • CoverGirl has equally great mascaras.
  2. Makeup Forever Skin Equalizer Primer
    • Doesn’t control my oil so makeup longevity decreases.
    • Might be better for someone with dry skin.
    • Don’t notice a smoothing effect.
  3. NUME Curling Wands
    • I have the set with 3 barrels (big, medium, small).
    • Hair doesn’t hold a curl very long with these
    • Temperature keeps fluctuating
    • The one pro is that my hair does look shiny when I use this product.
  4. Soap and Glory Body Butter and Shower Gel
    • I expected this to be amazing because it’s raved about so much.
    • Quality is okay – there’s nothing AMAZING about it but the scent
    • I think Bath and Body Works is comparable or maybe even better.
  5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Kits
    • Hard to blend, don’t recommend for beginners
    • The yellow colored concealer is a little harsh for most skin tones
  6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Kits
    • Don’t use this product alone as just a powder contour because after a couple hours the product will separate and be very patchy on the face (oily skin).
    • Works better on top of a cream concealer. Mist with Fix+.
    • I like the cool toned contour color to carve out my cheekbones.
  7. Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits
    • Pigmentation is good BUT WAY TOO DRYING for the price point
    • Gets patchy during the day
  8. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment
    • Expected more from this product because of the price
      • I wasn’t WOW-ed by it
    • Similar effects to chapstick
  9. Colour Pop Matte Liquid Lipsticks
    • Extremely drying
    • LOVE their lippie stix (Rayezor is my fave) just not their ultra mattes
  10. Urban Decay Glitter Liner and Single Shadows
    • Liner: not enough sparkle, thin, need to build up intensity
      • Would use NYX liner instead because it’s cheaper and has more glitter
    • Shadows: again, not enough sparkle, fall out is crazy
      • If you’re looking for a shimmery finish as opposed to a glitter finish then this would be great for you.
      • I have three glittery eye shadows that look beautiful in the pan but when applied it, it just looks like a powdery shadow.

10 Hyped Up Products that are Worth the Hype

  1. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer
    • This is the first concealer that I’ve ever tried for highlighting and it is PERFECT! It is full coverage (will cover acne marks) yet lightweight and it blends out easily!
  2. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
    • One of my favorites!
    • Beautiful color (kind of warm but not too warm) – will look nice on many skin tones. I use medium/deep.
  3. MAC Cosmetics Give Me Sun Bronzer
    • If you haven’t tried this, what are you doing with your life? But seriously, THE BEST BRONZER! You need this in your life.
  4. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
    • My holy grail. Haven’t tried anything better. Don’t need too.
  5. Ben Nye Translucent Setting Powders
    • Love using this on those nights that I want to look extra special. I use the “Pretty Pink”  color because it gives me that “bright and blushing” type of look that I love. Don’t worry it’s not crazy pink – just has a subtle pink hue.
  6. Benefit Watt’s Up Highlighter
    • I apply it onto my face and blend it in with my fingers and it blends beautifully.
    • Perfect for a subtle glow. I like it because it looks like I’m glowing from within.
    • Powder highlighters can be layered on top for extra glow!
  7. Smashbox Photo Primer
    • I honestly do see a difference in my pictures when I use this primer. It smooths out my face while also helping to control the amount of oil that peaks through my makeup during the day
  8. Huda Beauty Eyelashes
    • A little pricey but worth it
      • Order from Sephora’s website for cheaper shipping $
    • You may think all eye lashes are the same, but trust me, when you use her eye lashes that will definitely change. They are amazing! My favorites are Samantha, Giselle, and Sasha.
  9. Hourglass Blushes
    • B E A U T I F U L
    • The blush that I have – ethereal glow – has really fine sparkles in it (but doesn’t make your face sparkly) and it is so pretty!
    • Dying to try their strobe lighting powders!
    • Elegant packaging
  10. Tarte “Tarteist” Clay Paint Liner
    • This is jet black and super matte! Literally the most matte eyeliner I’ve tried!
    • Apparently it comes in gold and silver too online – super excited to try those!

My Perfect Nude Lip Combo

Lipstick is one of my favorite makeup items (if you couldn’t already tell). It can drastically change your makeup look! Recently I’ve been seeing a lot of peachy tones being worn. I like wearing something a little toned down on an everyday basis and so far the following combo has been my favorite peachy neutral combo! This combo just goes so well with my skin tone. Tan skinned girls… you will be thanking me for this (I’m sure this will look nice on a variety of skin tones too)!

How to Achieve this Lip Combo:
1) Apply MAC “Spice” lip liner all over the lips.
One of my favorites! Definitely a staple!
2) Put on NARS “Belle Du Jour” lipstick.
When I first swatched this it was so light – I was skeptical. But it looks perfect with Spice lip liner underneath!
3) Top with Gerard Cosmetics “Nude” Lipgloss
One of my all time favorite glosses! I swear by their nudes! They have the most flattering nudes for poc.

And that’s it! Hope you guys like it!
I will have a really juicy blog post up for Valentine’s Day next week. It isn’t a makeup look but it IS beauty related.. stay tuned! 🙂

Are Expensive Lip Scrubs Better than DIYs?

As someone who has chronically chapped lips, I was extremely excited to try this lip scrub! I was really hoping this would be my lip-saver. This lip scrub is from fresh and it is called Sugar Lip Polish ($24).

The directions say to massage a small amount onto the lips and then wipe it off with a damp washcloth. It can be used 2-3x a week.

Here are my opinions on this product:

I like that it makes my lips feel smooth afterwards. It also makes my lips plump (but that’s expected because of the exfoliation).
I don’t like that it doesn’t get all of the dead skin off of my lips. There is still some flakiness afterwards. Also, while it does feel smooth, it doesn’t feel moisturized.

Overall, I think it’s a decent product but not worth the money. A DIY lip scrub works just as well and is way less expensive. Here’s a DIY lip scrub recipe I’ve used before from Michelle Phan:

  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • A squirt of Vaseline

Just mix the ingredients together, massage into your lips, and wipe off with a damp washcloth!

Have you guys tried any of fresh‘s products? What are your favorites? Xoxo

The Hunt for the Best Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a must-have if you’re someone like me who washes their hair every 2-3 days. Initially I thought dry shampoo was a myth until I finally tried it for myself and realized what a staple it is. I’m still looking for my favorite one, but here are my thoughts on the ones that I’ve tried so far.

1) Loreal Paris EverStyle Dry Shampoo
Out of the three that I’ve tried, this was my least favorite. This works for like 3 minutes and then my hair is greasy again.

2) Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo
This product is great for absorbing excess oil and adding volume to the hair. It’s also super long lasting. This is my favorite out of the three.

3) TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo
My hair does not look greasy at first when I use this product but it isn’t very long lasting. I also don’t see much added volume with this product. I have very thick coarse hair so it might work better on someone with thinner hair.

Any suggestions on which ones I should try next? Let me know in the comments!

Gerard Cosmetics-Mini Haul & Review

Gerard Cosmetics is one of the online makeup brands that I absolutely love and adore! Their products are truly amazing and they always have some sort of sale going on! During their Black Friday sale I got some lipsticks, lip glosses, and a hydra-matte liquid lipstick.

The one thing I hate about online shopping is choosing a color based off of their swatches. They always use fairer skinned models, so it’s hard for someone darker to choose. Soooo… here are my swatches of the colors I got!

From top to bottom:

  1. Rodeo Drive Lipstickgc_swatches
  2. Vintage Rose Lipstick
  3. Electric Rose Supreme Lip Creme
  4. Destiny Supreme Lip Creme
  5. Crystal Lipgloss
  6. Ruby Slipper Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick

The formula is creamy, pigmented, long-wearing, and not drying at all.. basically everything you want out of a lipstick. Also, the gold bullet packaging is so cute!!!

Lip Glosses and Lip Cremes:
Their lip glosses and lip cremes are pigmented and not sticky at all. “Crystal” lip gloss goes on so beautifully over so many colors, especially coral-nudes.

Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks:
I bought ruby slipper which is beautiful. It has little specks of red sparkles. The color is such a beautiful extra dark red. It is lightweight and lasting (you need to reapply if you eat). It isn’t drying like other liquid lipsticks. I’d definitely recommend them! Here’s a pic of me wearing ruby slipper:img_0422
