Alternative to the Beauty Blender

Hi everyone! Hope you’re having a good day so far!

So for the past couple of days I’ve been using the buffing brush from the BH Cosmetics set that I recently posted about, and it is AMAZING for blending out highlight. Just dab the product around as you would with a beauty blender and voila!

I’ve been trying to find the perfect brush to blend out concealer that wouldn’t remove product or leave it streaky, and honestly this brush is just dense enough to leave the concealer looking flawlessly. I haven’t used this for cream contour but I’m sure it will work just as well!

I have oily skin so I don’t like that I have to use a wet beauty blender on my face to blend things out. Also, I feel like cleaning the beauty blender is such a task and I worry that I probably didn’t get all of the soap out. That being said, I’m so happy I finally found the perfect brush for the job so I just wanted to share that with you guys!

Also, just got the morphe G2 AKA “the beauty blender on a stick” as Patrick Star calls it. It is incredibly soft but also very tight and dense, which makes it perfect for blending!

My favorite concealer for highlighting is the NARS Radiant Concealer, just in case you were wondering. What is yours?

BH Cosmetics Brushes Review

BH Cosmetics is known for their affordable eye shadows. I never knew they even sold brushes. After doing some research on good brushes (I was specifically looking for a lip brush), I came across their sets. They were 50% off at the time so I figured I might as well try it.

I purchased the Metal Rose Makeup Brush set. This set comes with 11 brushes.

I can honestly say that these brushes surpassed my expectations. I wasn’t expecting them to be such great quality for the price point but it honestly is! They’re one of my favorite brush brands, second to Real Techniques. I think these brushes even beat Morphe brushes!

Face Brushes: Soft and dense, but not too dense. Just perfect! It feels so nice on the skin and blends out makeup beautifully.
Eye Brushes: Honestly my favorite blending brushes of all time! The flat brushes are also great for precision eyeshadow!
Lip Brush: Tight enough to fill in the lips as precisely as possible.

I definitely recommend these brushes to everyone! They are wonderful and affordable.

**Just curious, what are some of your favorite brushes?

10 Beauty Products that are Not Worth the Hype

  1. L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara – Carbon Black
    • By the way everyone raves about this product I thought it would be amazing and better than my holy grail (Too Faced BTS), but it isn’t.
    • It IS a good mascara for volume – but not for length.
    • CoverGirl has equally great mascaras.
  2. Makeup Forever Skin Equalizer Primer
    • Doesn’t control my oil so makeup longevity decreases.
    • Might be better for someone with dry skin.
    • Don’t notice a smoothing effect.
  3. NUME Curling Wands
    • I have the set with 3 barrels (big, medium, small).
    • Hair doesn’t hold a curl very long with these
    • Temperature keeps fluctuating
    • The one pro is that my hair does look shiny when I use this product.
  4. Soap and Glory Body Butter and Shower Gel
    • I expected this to be amazing because it’s raved about so much.
    • Quality is okay – there’s nothing AMAZING about it but the scent
    • I think Bath and Body Works is comparable or maybe even better.
  5. Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Kits
    • Hard to blend, don’t recommend for beginners
    • The yellow colored concealer is a little harsh for most skin tones
  6. Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Kits
    • Don’t use this product alone as just a powder contour because after a couple hours the product will separate and be very patchy on the face (oily skin).
    • Works better on top of a cream concealer. Mist with Fix+.
    • I like the cool toned contour color to carve out my cheekbones.
  7. Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits
    • Pigmentation is good BUT WAY TOO DRYING for the price point
    • Gets patchy during the day
  8. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment
    • Expected more from this product because of the price
      • I wasn’t WOW-ed by it
    • Similar effects to chapstick
  9. Colour Pop Matte Liquid Lipsticks
    • Extremely drying
    • LOVE their lippie stix (Rayezor is my fave) just not their ultra mattes
  10. Urban Decay Glitter Liner and Single Shadows
    • Liner: not enough sparkle, thin, need to build up intensity
      • Would use NYX liner instead because it’s cheaper and has more glitter
    • Shadows: again, not enough sparkle, fall out is crazy
      • If you’re looking for a shimmery finish as opposed to a glitter finish then this would be great for you.
      • I have three glittery eye shadows that look beautiful in the pan but when applied it, it just looks like a powdery shadow.

Two Faced Better Than False Lashes Extreme!

As someone who has short eyelashes, I was ecstatic when I heard about Too Faced Better than False Lashes Extreme! I heard two girls talking about it in line at Ulta and I was like OMG that’s on my makeup wish list for sure!

You can definitely see a difference in eyelash length between the “Better Than Sex (BTS)” mascara and the “Better than False Lashes Extreme! (BTFLE)” mascara (excuse the bad pic quality for this one – didn’t fill my eyebrows in-yikes).

Directions for BTFLE: Apply mascara from the gold tube, then add fibers from the white tube, then apply mascara again from the gold tube.

After months of using BTFLE ($35), here are my thoughts:

  • The mascara in the gold tube is somewhat different than the BTS mascara – it’s thinner/more fluid but I like it! It glides on so much easier!
  • It works better than the BTS mascara but it isn’t better than actual false lashes
  • It’s perfect for those nights where you want extra oomph but don’t want the drama of false lashes (like out to dinner or on a date)
    • I wouldn’t wear it everyday because I’m bad at removing mascara so I don’t want to sleep with fibers on my lashes.

Here is a picture of me wearing actual false lashes for comparison:

What are some of your favorite mascaras (with or without fibers)? Has anyone tried the Younique 3D fiber lash mascara? Thoughts?

You know you love me…haha jk any Gossip Girl lovers out there?

Review: Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick

Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤
Huda Beauty makes some of my favorite makeup products. . I finally decided to purchase her liquid matte lipsticks and my expectations were HIGH. I got the shade trendsetter. Here are my thoughts:

The pigmentation is great! No patchiness and it is very opaque!

Lasts a pretty long time – hours on hours on hours! If you eat you might have to reapply. However, I ate this morning and it lasted through my cereal.

The formulation is wonderful. It feels so luxurious and high quality. It’s very lightweight, and that’s a quality that’s hard to find in matte liquid lipsticks. The finish is matte but it is NOT DRYING at all. Not even a tiny bit. It’s so soft. It can feel just a tad bit sticky but not lip gloss sticky. When I wear a chapstick underneath it feels perfectly fine though.

If you’ve tried her liquid mattes, what are your favorite colors? I want all of them!!

Xoxo, Sayeedah

Are Expensive Lip Scrubs Better than DIYs?

As someone who has chronically chapped lips, I was extremely excited to try this lip scrub! I was really hoping this would be my lip-saver. This lip scrub is from fresh and it is called Sugar Lip Polish ($24).

The directions say to massage a small amount onto the lips and then wipe it off with a damp washcloth. It can be used 2-3x a week.

Here are my opinions on this product:

I like that it makes my lips feel smooth afterwards. It also makes my lips plump (but that’s expected because of the exfoliation).
I don’t like that it doesn’t get all of the dead skin off of my lips. There is still some flakiness afterwards. Also, while it does feel smooth, it doesn’t feel moisturized.

Overall, I think it’s a decent product but not worth the money. A DIY lip scrub works just as well and is way less expensive. Here’s a DIY lip scrub recipe I’ve used before from Michelle Phan:

  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • A squirt of Vaseline

Just mix the ingredients together, massage into your lips, and wipe off with a damp washcloth!

Have you guys tried any of fresh‘s products? What are your favorites? Xoxo

Gerard Cosmetics-Mini Haul & Review

Gerard Cosmetics is one of the online makeup brands that I absolutely love and adore! Their products are truly amazing and they always have some sort of sale going on! During their Black Friday sale I got some lipsticks, lip glosses, and a hydra-matte liquid lipstick.

The one thing I hate about online shopping is choosing a color based off of their swatches. They always use fairer skinned models, so it’s hard for someone darker to choose. Soooo… here are my swatches of the colors I got!

From top to bottom:

  1. Rodeo Drive Lipstickgc_swatches
  2. Vintage Rose Lipstick
  3. Electric Rose Supreme Lip Creme
  4. Destiny Supreme Lip Creme
  5. Crystal Lipgloss
  6. Ruby Slipper Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick

The formula is creamy, pigmented, long-wearing, and not drying at all.. basically everything you want out of a lipstick. Also, the gold bullet packaging is so cute!!!

Lip Glosses and Lip Cremes:
Their lip glosses and lip cremes are pigmented and not sticky at all. “Crystal” lip gloss goes on so beautifully over so many colors, especially coral-nudes.

Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks:
I bought ruby slipper which is beautiful. It has little specks of red sparkles. The color is such a beautiful extra dark red. It is lightweight and lasting (you need to reapply if you eat). It isn’t drying like other liquid lipsticks. I’d definitely recommend them! Here’s a pic of me wearing ruby slipper:img_0422

The Secret to Soft Lips with Matte Lipsticks

Happy Holidays everyone!

I’m posting this week’s blog a little early because I’m going out of town this week. I might put some pics of my trip on my instagram so you guys can check them out if you’d like.

Anyways, I swear by the product I’m about to mention!! I have super dry lips but this secret keeps them hydrated:

  1. Line lips with lip liner and fill them in if you’d like.
  2. Apply Nivea’s Lip Butter all over.
    1. It’s important to line your lips first because lip liner will be hard to apply after putting on this product.
  3.  Apply Matte lipstick.

It’s as simple as that! I’ve tried using regular chapstick first but my lips get super dry still. However, with this lip butter by Nivea my lips feel super soft and supple underneath my matte lipsticks. This product also lasts for like 5-6 hours! Talk about amazing!

What’re some of your favorite lip hydration products?? 🙂

P.S. If I have time I will do another post this week. Keep your eyes peeled. Maybe a Gerard Cosmetics mini haul + review? 🙂
