Review: Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette – Golden Sands Edition

AHHHHH! I’m so excited! I love Huda Kattan’s beauty products! She also has her own blog where she reviews products, so I trust that when she makes a product, she makes it as perfect as she can.

First things first – can we talk about how bomb her makeup looks on the cover?! Ugh, I die for it! Anyways, this beauty retails for $45.00 at Sephora.

Initially, I wanted to buy the Pink Sands Edition, but I thought Santorini would be too light for medium skin tone. Hence why I went with the Golden Sands Edition.

LOOK AT HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS LOOKS!!

You know, normally I wouldn’t like a sparkly blush and contour (cause I like the matte look), BUT I think it looks so beautiful for an occasion like a nice dinner or going out to the movies.

I got this as an Eid gift and I was so excited to play with it!

I’m pretty sure many of you follow the beauty guru on insta, but if you don’t, here’s how to use it:

  1. Apply Fiji on the high parts of the cheek as a base for the actual highlight
  2. Set Fiji with Seychelles (you can also add this highlight wherever else you would like)
  3. Add Tahiti under the cheekbone to sculpt
  4. Put Zanzibar on the apples of the cheeks

See below for swatches: (Left to right: Zanzibar, Tahiti, Seychelles, Fiji)

Here’s what I like about this palette:

  • The melted strobe is creamy, and doesn’t make my face look oily. The colors Fiji and Seychelle really compliment my skin tone. The colors look beautiful and perfect on golden skin. I’m not so sure how it would look on a lighter skin tone. I would probably opt for the Pink Sands Edition out of the two for a fair complexion.
  • The blush color is beautiful and not overly sparkly. All the sparkle does is make your skin look radiant. It’s a very faint “baby pink” type of color which looks like a natural flush and I love it!!
  • I don’t find it to be “chunky” as people have said in other reviews. I actually think that it’s quite smooth and beautiful. It blends out pretty easily and looks seamless.

Here’s what I don’t like:

The melted strobe is thicker than the cream highlighter than I’m used to (Benefit Watt’s Up). I put my concealer on and then the melted strobe on top and because it’s so thick, it was hard to blend that cream on top of my concealer.

The Blush, when applied to the apple of my cheeks, brought attention to texture there (because of the sparkle). I’m kind of dry in that area and it made it look worse  – nothing a little MAC Fix + can’t fix though.

As with anything sparkly, too much can show all of the texture on your skin, so start off with a light hand.

The bronzer color is a bit too light for me in my opinion. I definitely could not use this on it’s own as a bronzer. It looks nice on top of another bronzer, but the sparkle doesn’t really show through. I guess that’s a good thing because who wants their contour to look sparkly? It kind of has more of a subtle radiance than a “I dipped my cheeks in sparkle” type of look.

Overall, I think this palette is beautiful. I’m a makeup junkie so it’s definitely like a “collector’s item” for me. I love Huda and her products and I admire her story so much (maybe I’m a little biased, sorry :/). I wish the bronzer color was a little bit better but I do like the sheen it leaves on my face! I think if I was a makeup creator, I would love to develop something like this. However, I would probably make my product more finely milled so it doesn’t call attention to the texture in my skin.

Have you guys tried this palette? What are your thoughts?

Thank you for sharing, I recently got this palette as well and I love it. I agree about the cream highlighter though so I had to approach it differently, I love to blend it out the a tiny purple real techniques sponge and it goes on much smoother!
