Apparently if you want your makeup to look flawless, this is the setting powder to buy! Whenever I buy a setting powder I get it in the travel size for two reasons: 1) I don’t bake my face very often and 2) it allows me to try out other products if I decide that I don’t like the one I purchased. Honestly, I can see why people rave about this. When you use this either for plain setting purposes or for baking, it literally leaves your skin looking so smooth and flawless. This product contains hyaluronic acid, which is known for giving the skin a more youthful appearance, which it definitely does! What I do love about it is that it feels super lightweight and not at all cakey which is unlike any powder I’ve tried! Because I have oily skin, I’m always on the hunt for good, long lasting makeup that I won’t have to blot or touch up all day long. I tried baking with this product because I know my makeup typically lasts longer when I bake. Sadly, however, my makeup only lasted for four hours when I baked using this product. Normally when I bake I can wear my makeup for a full day without having to retouch. Also, people claim that this product that doesn’t cause flashback. I, on the other hand, disagree. I took a picture at night and it definitely causes flashback. You may not see it as much if you take the picture during the day. I think if you have dry skin you will absolutely LOVE this powder…in the daytime. If you want to try it, you can get it here. Powerful Women
Why is it as women that we are expected to make a choice? Do you want a career or do you want a family/a life? People are always in disbelief that you can have both. And it’s not just the people looking from the outside in. It’s the people around you as well. People try to make you feel bad for wanting both. Like your whole entire life should come second to a career – because that’s the life you C H O S E. It’s as though being a woman who wants a life outside of a career is something to be looked down upon. Like one cannot exist with the other. Like women should wait until they are stable in their career to be able to have both. I see things differently. Here’s why: life will always throw you curve balls. Are you ever really ready for anything life has to throw your way? Not really. I was never ready. I was never ready for high school (my first public school) or to move away from home in undergrad. You’re kind of just thrown into a situation and you just adjust from there. People around you think that by giving you advice they are giving you THE BEST advice, when that is not always the case. People’s opinions and take on life is shaped by their experience. And everyone in life has different experiences. That is why personally, I take what everyone says with a grain of salt. I know there may be truth in what people say, but ultimately, no one knows what’s best for you, more than you. It’s a constant battle of: “You can just wait until you are done with school to pursue x, y and z.” No. School shouldn’t consume you to the part where you feel like you have to sacrifice a life for it. It’s okay to want a relationship too. It’s okay to have other interests too. It’s okay to want to be married too. It’s okay to want to have a family too. These are all normal things that women want but women who pursue careers are made to feel bad for wanting these things. As if it’s crazy to want. It’s not. It’s okay to crave those things. People constantly want a justification of why those things are necessary. I would say at least 75% of girls have…
The Best Primer I’ve Ever Used
OMG! You guys, if you want perfect silky skin you need to try this primer! I promise you that it does deliver. Tatcha’s Silk Canvas Primer is pretty pricey but I’m telling you that it’s worth it. It retails for $52 at Sephora. Whenever I see a primer that is supposed to make your face look silky or moisturized I kind of shy away from it being that I have oily skin. Typically I stick to a mattifying primer but I decided to try this since I got a sample from Sephora. Claims: smoothen makeup and increase longevity. Good for all skin types. Since I have oily skin I’ll be giving my oily skin girls the run down. Does it increase longevity? I don’t think so. It lasted as long as my makeup normally would without getting oily which is about 4 hours. Keep in mind that in Florida the sun is literally in your face so that is a pretty decent amount of time. DOES IT SMOOTH MAKEUP?! OMG YES!!!!! My face has never looked better using this primer! you have to use it! You will literally look like a porcelain doll. Smashbox is my ride or die but I like this primer even more! Does it make your skin oilier? No Breakouts? Nope Overall I give this a 5/5. Get your hands on this if you can!!! On Skin Color & Beauty
Preface: I honestly was a bit hesitant on posting this because I don’t ever want to offend anyone and if I have offended anyone by any matter in this post then I am truly sorry. In North America, a certain shade of darkness is considered beautiful – the “Kim Kardashian” type tan. & Let’s be real, many many people try to achieve this skin color whether it be through tanning or bleaching. The darker you get from there, the less beautiful people seem to believe you are. I believe that many people think that lighter skinned = more beautiful, especially in Guyanese culture. So many people there bleach there skin to be lighter colored. I have had people say to me “oh if only you were a shade or two lighter.” And I’m not even the darkest there is out there (granted I’m not light skinned either). It’s so ingrained in Guyanese people’s minds that lighter = beautiful; darker = ugly that they don’t even realize that they make that assimilation sometimes. I don’t believe that people always mean to insult when they say these things. They just don’t realize that they even make that assimilation. Everyone in the world goes through their own struggle. I do feel however, that darker skin is not recognized enough for being beautiful – especially not in my culture and in the North American beauty industry. BUT WHY? Why is fair skin regarded as more beautiful? Not to say that one color is more beautiful than the next, but there are so many beautiful tan, brown and black girls. What is wrong with color? In American culture we can see this by just looking at TV shows and magazine covers. Most of the women I see featured or landing leading roles are fairer skinned women. Only recently have we seen black women and Latina women getting more recognition for beauty and for their acting skill. However, majority of what we see is still mostly white. Even though there is now a trend to recognize black beauty, what about brown beauty? What happened to that? Why is it that we see the opposite of the extremes: white or black. Why is it rare to see the shades in between? I would like to see more people of my skin color getting more magazine features and leading roles in television and movies. #brownisbeautiful too. To make…
Glow Recipe: Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
Who doesn’t love some glowy skin?! Good makeup after all does start with a good base. Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask is all over Instagram so I was excited to finally try it! THE VERY FIRST THING I WANTED TO KNOW: does it smell like watermelon? No it does not. It’s okay – that’s not a deal breaker. Here are some of the benefits the product boasts: Good for all skin types Hydrates, smooths, and perfects skin overnight Formulated with: hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking young and moisturized watermelon extract to soothe the skin AHAs to smooth the surface of the skin How to Use: You can either rub this onto your face, pat until absorbed, and then head to bed OR apply it to your face and wash off after 10 minutes. I woke up feeling brand new! Hahah. But no, seriously, this mask is that good. I actually noticed a difference in my skin’s appearance. My skin looked brighter smoother and hydrated – as promised by the claims! Although pricey at $45, I definitely think it’s worth it. If you have dry skin you will absolutely fall in love! Totally worth the hype! Have you tried this mask? What are your thoughts? Nail Polish You Can Pray With
If you are non-Muslim, you may be a little confused by my title so let me do some explaining! Muslim women are traditionally not supposed to wear nail polish to pray. Before the prayer, we do a cleansing ritual where the water has to touch the nails. However, if a woman is wearing nail polish, it makes it impossible for that to happen. Now however, there are breathable nail polishes that allow for water to reach the nails. In particular, I came across Orly breathables at the drugstore!!! I know I’m late on this but I live in a small town okay. We aren’t exactly the first to get the hottest newest products! Orly mentions that their nail polish is Halal certified on their website (which basically means it is permissible to wear). The biggest question on my mind when I saw this product was: “does it compare to other nail polishes out there or is it just a super thin consistency?” The polish claims that no base coat or top coat is needed so that’s how I will use it. I typically always use two coats and here are my thoughts: No base/top coat is needed It looks just as good as other nail polishes The consistency is just thick enough OMG NEED THIS IN EVERY COLOR!!! You can find them here on my Amazon Favorites page. This is an affiliate link. What are some of your favorite shades for nail polish? I typically always stick to pink! Comment below and let me know!
