Let’s Talk about Setting Your Face! (Part 2!)
The first makeup product I ever owned was setting powder. Actually, it may have been lipgloss. BUT when I first started wearing makeup I used to only wear setting powder.. you know, the types that have foundation in them. To this day I can’t believe I never wore foundation in high school (well, except for prom and homecoming).
Anyhow let’s get into the real reason I’m writing this post. My main goal this year is to perfect a flawless base for oily skin. Having oily skin means I only wear matte products, however that can sometimes make my skin look a little too matte in the center. So I want a routine that makes my skin looks flawless, matte and lasts long.
My last post was also about a flawless base so make sure you check that out!
My Usual Routine
Normally when I do my makeup I set everything with a foundation powder. Yep, even when I contour. What I do then is I just put on my concealer, bake, and then add my foundation powder on top. When I do that everything looks nice and seamless together but it can look too matte in the center of my face.
What I Changed
What I tried this time was contouring my face and then just setting/baking with translucent powder in the triangle of light. I then dusted the rest of my face excluding the triangle of light with foundation powder. I know this isn’t anything new and literally every youtuber does this. I was always skeptical but I decided to finally try it!
The Results
It made my face look super flawless and pretty. It didn’t leave my face oily. Then only thing is that I noticed small tiny patches where some of the makeup came off a little when using the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. I did not have the same issue when I used the Ben Nye Setting Powder. Another thing that I noticed is that if you use a colored translucent powder like the banana powder then it doesn’t blend in as well with the rest of your face as it does when I set my entire face with the foundation powder.

I definitely understand the feeling of being SUPER busy. I’m getting ready to graduate in a week and I still need to write a 10 page paper, finish my magazine deliverables, and most importantly decorate my cap! 🎓 thanks for sharing your routine. I’m trying to get into a makeup routine and I’m actually going to be decluttering my makeup here soon.
