Let’s Talk Makeup Removal!

I talk about makeup a lot on my blog, but I never really talk about removal! My friend requested this post and I thought it was such a good idea! Good skin is the key to good makeup!

For reference, let me give you a little background on my skin:

I do NOT have perfect skin. I get pimples once in a while but not too often (maybe 1-2 per month). I also have really oily skin.

Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s get into the removal steps!

STEP 1

I LOVE Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover cream (~$5)! I just rub it on my eyes, lashes, eyebrows, and lips and then rinse it off! It’s super gentle! It also helps me take my false lashes off and gets the glue off of them! (rub it along the band).

It makes you look like a raccoon after (especially if you wear as much mascara as I do) but that’s okay cause step 2 takes care of that!

**Side note: Clinique eye makeup remover is an excellent option as well (also good for cleaning up a messy winged liner!)

STEP 2

MAKEUP REMOVER WIPES!! Love these things! I use Neutrogena makeup remover wipes ($5). I’ve never tried any other makeup wipe because I’ve never had an issue with these and they work well for me. However, simply using a makeup is not enough. As it states on the package, makeup wipes only remove 99% of the makeup! Seems like a lot, but if you go in with a clarisonic after, you’ll see that that 1% left over is actually a lot more than you’d think! They come in a couple of different colored packs – the blue is my favorite although I don’t really think there’s a significant difference between them.

Let’s be real, on lazy nights I stop here (but this is like a once in a blue moon thing).

STEP 3

picture of washFACE WASHING. Having a sister really came in clutch here. I accidentally left my cleanser at home when I was going away for a weekend. It was the night before a HUGE event (my white coat ceremony – see instagram for pictures). Luckily, my sister had an extra face wash that she let me borrow and I ended up LOVING it! It’s the Cetaphil Oil Control Foam Wash. It controls my oil and I think it’s been helping to lighten my acne scars – which typically take forever to go away!

** DONT wash your face with regular body soap because it can be a little harsh for your face area.

STEP 4

MOISTURIZE! Oil control face washes can be a little drying it’s good to add moisture back to the face. When you don’t have enough moisture, your face freaks out and starts producing even more oil so don’t skip out on this step!

Once a week I also use my clarisonic with Clean and Clear Exfoliating Wash and then I do a face mask after! 💖 I’ll have a post of my favorite face masks up later so be on the lookout for that!

How do you guys go about removing your makeup? Is it similar to my routine? What’s different? <3

I use to use these makeup wipes all the time! I would store the whole package upside down so they all get equally moist.

I enjoy reading others’ routines to get different ideas and view points! My routine is quite different than yours. I swear by cleansing oils and micellar waters. I use cleansing oils to break down most of my makeup, then micellar water to remove any remaining residue. I agree with your statement that every skin type benefits from moisture on the skin – over production of oil is when your skin is overcompensating. 🙂

Me too!! Like I noticed a lot of people use toner but I’m just not even sure what that does. I’ve seen a lot of people using coconut oil as a makeup remover but I can’t stand the smell! That’s a cool way of doing it though, thanks for sharing! 💖💖
