Contour & Highlight Routine for Oily Skin
Hi everyone! This post is dedicated to my favorite contouring products. I don’t like to go heavy with contouring – I like something more subtle. I have oily skin so it took me a while to figure out which product combinations worked for me but thankfully I found it!
Before I jump in… I just want to debunk a few “myths”:
- People with oily skin should only use powder contour products
- I’ve tried using ONLY the Anastasia Beverly Hills powder contour kit to contour but it just looked so bad and cakey. Also, when my face got oily it just ended up looking muddy.
- I prefer using a liquid and then setting it with a setting powder…looks much nicer!
- People with oily skin should not use a damp beauty blender
- I use a damp beauty blender to blend in my concealer and it works fine. However, I wouldn’t suggest using a damp beauty blender to apply foundation or setting powders.
Ok.. now that we have that down, let’s get into products!
- Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer-Custard
- This stuff really lives up to the hype. I use this under my eyes (in a triangle shape) and in the center of my forehead, chin, cupid’s bow, and nose.
- I use a damp beauty blender to blend this out. You can also use a brush.
- Ben Nye “Pretty Pink” translucent powder
- Set under eyes, chin, and forehead with this powder…can also use this to “bake”
- Baking: I suggest leaving the powder for at least 10 minutes so it can really absorb into the skin. I find that when I leave it for less time the powder doesn’t fully absorb and ends up looking more cakey.
- Can also apply some powder underneath cheek contour to sharpen the contour (leave it for a minute or two and then remove excess)
- Set under eyes, chin, and forehead with this powder…can also use this to “bake”
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour kit
- Light to Medium kit: Use the color “Fawn” to carve out cheekbones
- Fawn is the middle shade in the second row of the kit (Can be purchased in singles – don’t have to buy the whole kit)
- It’s a very cool toned color so it’s perfect for creating depth and dimension
- Light to Medium kit: Use the color “Fawn” to carve out cheekbones
- MAC Cosmetics “Give Me Sun” Bronzer
- This warm toned bronzer looks so beautiful on a wide range of skin tones! I love it so much!!
- Apply to the outer perimeter of the forehead, hollows of cheekbones, and along the jawline.
- Start light and then gradually build the color
- This warm toned bronzer looks so beautiful on a wide range of skin tones! I love it so much!!
- Becca Cosmetics: “Opal” or Champagne Pop” Highlighter OR Benefit: Watt’s Up (for a more subtle highlight)
- Apply on the bridge of the nose, cheekbones, and cupid’s bow.
Optional: finish off the look with a foundation plus powder setting powder… You don’t have to do this cause I realize it’s a lot of powder, but it really pulls the whole look together.
